Book Review: I Am Sleepless: Sim 299 by Johan Twiss (Book One of the I Am Sleepless series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Fiction

Age Recommendation: 12 and up

I received this book courtesy of Bookrature.

This book was very thrilling and I loved the action and suspense. The beginning was confusing as there were a lot of characters with no background but as the book evolved, the characters were developed and I enjoyed it a lot. Also, this was a pretty long book, in contrast to some of the other ARCs I’ve read recently, which made it all the more enjoyable.

Sim 299

————————————————

Aidan and his two best friends are part of a military organization in the future where they train children to join the military. Aidan is special in that he has the power of vibruntcy and puzzler. Only one of these powers are ever found in these genetically modified children named “primes” but Aidan seems to have both, which is extremely dangerous.

Aidan is only twelve but he has reached stimulation number 299 in training; the farthest any prime has ever gotten. He continues to fail in this stimulation, but some unexpected help from his enemies causes him to achieve his goal. Except now they are all stuck in the stimulation for a final battle. They must return in three weeks or they will die.

If that isn’t bad enough already, Aidan can’t tell anyone about the 299th stimulation which is causing him to drift further apart from his friends. Moreover, he is not able to control his powers, which take him into another world which seems surreal but is actually just beyond the dome that he has lived in all his life. The threats that lay outside the world he knows scare Aidan but he must face them eventually as he is the “chosen one” of the stimulation.

Will he beat the stimulation?
