Book Review: I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson

IT’S JUNE! You know what that means? PRIDE MONTH!! I think it’s only fitting that my first June book review be one with an LGBT+ main character. So, without further ado, I present the review for I’ll Give You The Sun: Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 15 and up This book is extraordinarily written from the perspective of a set of twins – a brother and a sister. The story goes back and forth over a 3 year period and offers a lens into each sibling’s journey through life. We see the brother as he … Continue reading Book Review: I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson

Book Review: Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Non-fiction This book is the second out of a set of four written by Bob Woodward on the Bush Presidency. It details the days from the end of 9/11 through the invasion of Iraq. The book is a result of over 75 compiled interviews with several members of the Cabinet including the President himself. In many places in the book, Woodward analyzes and often criticizes the decisions made by several cabinet members, including the President himself. He questions, and even rejects the veracity of a lot of the evidence brought to the cabinet … Continue reading Book Review: Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward

Book Review: Numbers by Rachel Ward

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up In this book, the author weaves a terrifying tale of a girl who can see the date on which each person will die. A novel concept which is well-executed, this book promises to leave you on the edge of your seat. This book is written is from a young girl’s perspective. And while it is understandable that the author would want to stay in character, the writing style of this book seems a little amateur, in that it is difficult to grasp a deeper meaning from the book … Continue reading Book Review: Numbers by Rachel Ward

Book Review: The Queen by Kiera Cass (A Selection Novella)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up I felt that this book wasn’t really relevant to the whole series besides adding some background to the story of the current queen. However, I still enjoyed the book! The story was very well written and I loved all the characters. I wouldn’t recommend reading this book before reading the series but it’s definitely fun reading after! ———————————————– Amberly is one of the contestants of the Selection. She has loved the prince for as long as she can remember and getting selected was a dream come true. When … Continue reading Book Review: The Queen by Kiera Cass (A Selection Novella)

Book Review: Free to Fall by Lauren Miller

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommendation: 14 and up I loved this book but I felt that there were several unnecessary plot twists and that took away from the book. ——————————————— Rory Vaughn lives in a world of technology. A world where there are apps that make decisions for you. A world where intuition is something to be frowned upon and rationality means letting devices make all the choices for you. Rory isn’t a huge fan of technology and sees no reason to use an app to make all of her decisions. In addition, the Doubt (i.e., … Continue reading Book Review: Free to Fall by Lauren Miller

Book Review: The Heir by Kiera Cass (Book Four of the Selection Series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommendation: 14 and up This book was a lot more appealing to me because it was written from the point of view of a princess rather than the prince. However, this book had a cliffhanger and Ms. Cass just has to write another one now. Also, there are two fantastic book covers for this book so I’m going to include them both! Feel free to comment and tell me which one you like better! ——————————————— The future queen of Illea is standing in front of her people, ready to announce the biggest … Continue reading Book Review: The Heir by Kiera Cass (Book Four of the Selection Series)

January and February Recap

My reviewing has been a bit slow recently and I’m sorry, but I have now made a goal to publish at least two book reviews a week. Also, my January reviewing list was quite poor so I’ve decided to do a January and February recap this time. My favorites in these two months were definitely Wheels Of Change and Girl On A Wire. Below is the list of books that I have reviewed in January and February. I was also really excited because Darlene Beck Jacobson, author of Girl On A Wire, sent me bookmarks and a signed bookplate as a gift for reviewing … Continue reading January and February Recap

Book Review: Sisters by Raina Telgemeier (A Companion novel to Smile by Raina Telgemeier)

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Genre: Graphic Novel Age Recommended: 12 and up I felt that this book perfectly shows the relationship between siblings and how their interactions affect their whole family. Raina Telgemeier also shows the feelings that involve four people living in an apartment, who are soon joined by a baby. This book goes between “present time” and flashbacks a lot which may seem confusing but the flashbacks are illustrated on yellow paper and they are there at the most appropriate of times. ——————————————————- Raina and her sister, Amara, have always wanted pets. However, when they do … Continue reading Book Review: Sisters by Raina Telgemeier (A Companion novel to Smile by Raina Telgemeier)
