Wonder is an amazing book that shows how fortunate most of us are. Sometimes, you look in the mirror and say, “I wish my ears were a little smaller.” Others, who are less fortunate than you like August, will look in the mirror and say, “I wish I had ears that were fully formed.” Funny right? You want to change what you have but some people don’t even have that.
That shows us that many are less fortunate than others and that they deserve the same amount of respect that the rest of us have. We might look at a blind person begging, and pity them but by giving them just a little bit of money, you might have let them live to see another day.
August is a boy who was born with a “not fully formed” face. His sister used to get mad if someone called him deformed so I’m not going to do that either. 🙂
He had been home-schooled for years because in “real” school, people used to tease him about his face. August decided to start at a “real” school again in fifth grade, and except for some mean kids, he loved it.
This book is wonderful and full of interesting stories that will make you want to read it again and again.
