Book Review: Rosemary’s Gravy by Melissa F. Miller

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up This book was a fantastic mystery and a lot of the interaction between characters was very witty, which I enjoyed a lot. ——————————————– Rosemary has been a cook for a prestigious woman for a very long time. However, one night before a huge dinner, her employer’s new husband comes to her and asks her to change the menu. The next night, her employer is found dead in her room. Rosemary immediately becomes the suspect and is taken in for questioning. But when the cops start to believe her when … Continue reading Book Review: Rosemary’s Gravy by Melissa F. Miller

Book Review: Making it Home by Suzanne Roche (Time to Time Book 1)

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars Genre: Historical Fiction Age Recommended: 11 and up The beginning of this book was okay but the middle was extremely slow and boring. I continued reading just to see what happens in the end. However, the end was disappointing as well and I didn’t enjoy the book at all. The idea behind the story was good but the execution was poor. ——————————————— Peri and her two step-brothers, Henry and Max, are transported back in time when they accidentally put an old relic on top of a book that transports them back to the time that the relic … Continue reading Book Review: Making it Home by Suzanne Roche (Time to Time Book 1)

Book Review: The Price of Innocence by Bryan Devore

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Mystery Age Recommended: 13 and up This was a good book but a lot of the characters had similar names and sometimes the author’s overuse of pronouns made it a tad confusing. ———————————————- Ian Lawrence has been sending cryptic messages to his parents and after one final email, his mother loses it. She calls his older brother, James, and tells him to find Ian. James is reluctant at first, but after reading his brother’s emails and learning about his work, things suddenly seem a lot more interesting. When James is attacked by men … Continue reading Book Review: The Price of Innocence by Bryan Devore

Book Review: Me Before You by JoJo Moyes (soon to be a movie on June 3rd!!)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up This is one of the most amazing stories that I have ever read. I can’t even begin to fathom how the author came up with this idea and the narration was flawless too. The story contains very few characters and all of them were very well-developed, giving the reader further insight into the characters. Truly a heartwarming read… —————————————————– Louisa has just been fired from the only job she knows. Her family is surviving on her wages in the middle of a recession, so she needs to get another job, and … Continue reading Book Review: Me Before You by JoJo Moyes (soon to be a movie on June 3rd!!)

Book Review: Blueprint by Charlotte Kerner

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Genre: Science Fiction Age Recommended: 15 and up A lot of the themes in this book were really disturbing and there were clear scenes of self-harm and thoughts of suicide. Would not recommend if you aren’t comfortable with those type of books. “I don’t like the word clone. I prefer to call myself…” —————————————————– Iris is a famous pianist and when she plays, notes flow from the piano like water in a river. However, she mas multiple sclerosis. And it’s progressing quite rapidly. Being a single, middle-aged woman, Iris has no children of her … Continue reading Book Review: Blueprint by Charlotte Kerner

Book Review: Girl Jacked by Christopher Greyson (A Detective Jack Stratton Novel)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars Genre: Thriller Age Recommended: 15 and up This book chilled me to the bone. I would definitely not recommend this to the faint-hearted because there were a few scenes with torture and gore. Moreover, the entire idea behind the book was quite disturbing, as I realized near the climax, and this definitely made me rethink any assumptions I had made earlier on. Also, the author referred to one character as “Replacement” for most of the book because the main character could not “remember” her name, and I found this incredibly distracting (and annoying at times). … Continue reading Book Review: Girl Jacked by Christopher Greyson (A Detective Jack Stratton Novel)

Book Review: First Shot by Walter Sorrells

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up This book was from my school library and was definitely one of the best books I’ve read from there. The author did a really good job of gradually weaving new characters into the story. ——————————————— David Crandall goes to a private school. One where students are punished with push-ups and skipped meals. A school that fosters one of the most competitive environments in the area. However, things are a little different for David, whose dad is the principal of the school. One would think that a father favors his … Continue reading Book Review: First Shot by Walter Sorrells

Book Review: Hushabye by Celina Grace (A Kate Redman Mystery)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 14 and up Great book!! The main character  was especially intriguing because of her personal connections to the rest of the story. —————————————— Kate Redman is a woman who has recently transferred into another police station. Upon arrival, she is briefed about a case involving a missing child and a murdered nanny. Kate struggles to investigate the distraught mother and the distant father, before realizing that neither was really involved in the child’s life. The mother is a struggling actress and the father is a workaholic. After learning more about … Continue reading Book Review: Hushabye by Celina Grace (A Kate Redman Mystery)

Book Review: Genius- The Game by Leopoldo Gout (Book one)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Fiction Age Recommended: 13 and up I liked this book because it was different from everything I had been reading for a while and the characters were really interesting. I received an advance copy of this book thanks to NetGalley – it is now available on Amazon (Genius: The Game) ———————————————- Rex is a coder. He loves writing code to hack into programs that are part of large corporations. However, he hasn’t had peace of mind ever since his brother left him and his family for an organization that would “change the world.” Rex hasn’t … Continue reading Book Review: Genius- The Game by Leopoldo Gout (Book one)

Book Review: Code by Carolyn McCray (Book three of the Robin Hood Hacker series)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Genre: Thriller Age Recommended: 14 and up As I’ve mentioned briefly in the reviews for the first and second books of these series, each book has its own mini prequel where they introduce the scenario. Zeroes is the one for this book. Code was a great finale to this story but it still had the same general theme as the other books. I wish the author had done something different, because the only distinction I saw in the third book was the technology being used. ———————————————— Ronnie has been sentenced to life in prison. She’s been in … Continue reading Book Review: Code by Carolyn McCray (Book three of the Robin Hood Hacker series)
