Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Genre: Fiction
Age Recommended: 13 and up
This book was reasonably well-written until the climax, where it honestly all fell apart. The climax was a total mess; there was just too much going on and the authors seemed to lose focus on what the end goal of the scene was. I also thought that the main character was extremely immature and had a personality that was really easy to dislike, and I didn’t understand how he was the protagonist. That being said, a lot of my friends said that they read this book years ago and loved it, so I might just be reading it a little later than the ideal age the authors intended to target.
Also, since this series has seven books and I essentially read one (or more) a day, I’m going to challenge myself to write and post the reviews over the span of a week, ideally one a day! So, watch out for my daily reviews about Lorien Legacies!
After Lorien was invaded, the nine surviving Gardes (children that had special powers) fled to Earth to seek refuge from the evil Mogadorians that sought to destroy them all. Their elders put a spell on them that numbered them from 1-9 and dictated that so long as they weren’t together, they couldn’t be killed out of order. As long as the Gardes were alive, there was hope that the Mogadorians could be defeated.
Number Four knows that his time is coming. The three burn marks on his leg symbolize the three Gardes that have been killed, reminding him that he is next in line to be targeted by the Mogadorians. He is no stranger to moving around, having had to be on the run his whole life with a different identity in every town, but this time something is different.
He is in love with Sarah, a girl from school, and for the first time in his life, is unwilling to sever ties and move on to a new town. When his guardian, Henri, starts noticing unusual occurrences around him, he is sure that the Mogadorians have caught up to them.
Will Number Four be able to let go of Sarah and fulfill his destiny?
