Book Review: When You Never Said Goodbye by Meg Kearney

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Age Recommended: 13 and up

I didn’t really enjoy this book, because while it was a good story and has well developed characters, I felt that the author tried too hard to drag the story out. Even though this book was the third in a series and I easily understood it without having read the first two.

Liz’s adoptive father has just passed away, which is making her more eager than ever to find her birth mother. After saying goodbye to her mother after another long Christmas, Liz goes back to college with her mission fresh in mind.

When Liz begins investigating her birth mother, all she hits are dead ends. Most people aren’t willing to help her, and those who are willing don’t know how to. Liz finally learns tiny details about her mother through untold sources and begins to piece together an image which she believes to resemble her mother.

However, when a lady finally approaches Liz, claiming to have information about her birth mother, Liz isn’t entirely sure if she wants to know anymore.

Will she eventually find her birth mother?

Book Review: Code by Carolyn McCray (Book three of the Robin Hood Hacker series)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Genre: Thriller

Age Recommended: 14 and up

As I’ve mentioned briefly in the reviews for the first and second books of these series, each book has its own mini prequel where they introduce the scenario. Zeroes is the one for this book.

Code was a great finale to this story but it still had the same general theme as the other books. I wish the author had done something different, because the only distinction I saw in the third book was the technology being used.

Ronnie has been sentenced to life in prison. She’s been in there for only a few months, but it already feels like it’s been too long. Zach and Quirk are on their way to help her escape, and when they do, she is briefed about the current crisis.

Remaining members of the Hidden Hand that have not yet been eradicated have now released a virus similar to small-pox all over the world. Except it’s much more lethal. Black-pox shouldn’t be that hard to cure because its genetic makeup is similar to that of small-pox and vaccination companies already have ways to vaccinate against small-pox.

However, when the Hidden Hand destroys all locations that carry information regarding the small-pox vaccine, and the vaccine itself, Ronnie and the others must find a way to recreate the vaccine and stop the Hidden Hand before it’s too late.

Will they be able to do it?

Book Review: Earth Angel by Valmore Daniels (Book three of the Fallen Angels series)

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommendation: 13 and up

To be completely honest, I was extremely disappointed with this book. The first three-quarters were just plot-less gore and the rest made no sense. I don’t know how the author could write such a book after the first two, which were very balanced and well-written. If the fourth and fifth books are like this one, I will definitely not be reading them anytime soon.

Earth Angel

Kyle Chase is a heart surgeon. He has been doing major research in the area of stem cells and is working on a solution that could possibly cure any physical ailment by allowing cells to reproduce much faster. He has his son brought in to watch his  breakthrough and Dr.Chase attempts to insert this solution into the body of a severely burned man.

However, this solution ends up giving the man supernatural powers. Moreover, the test subject starts murdering people in order to get the nutrients and essence he needs to stay alive. Dr.Chase is killed, as is his assistant, and only his son survives along with the half-man half-beast. The beast now proceeds to go on a killing rampage on the streets to save himself from whatever is possessing him.

Dr.Chase’s son and the police must figure out a way to defeat this supernatural being before it can murder any more innocent people.

Will they be able to save people from this terrifying beast?
