Book Review: Skinner’s Banks by Brad V. Cowan

Rating: 3.6 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 9 and up I’m really excited about writing this review because this is an advance reader copy (courtesy NetGalley) and the book is expected to be released on April 1st. Skinner’s Banks is a story about a teenager, Cale Finch, who loves to skateboard. One day, he suddenly becomes famous, but he doesn’t know why or how. Even the popular kids come up to him and want to hang out with him. When one of his friends shows him the newspaper, Cale realizes that the crazy stunt that he pulled a couple of … Continue reading Book Review: Skinner’s Banks by Brad V. Cowan

Book Review: A Wind In The Door by Madeleine L’Engle

Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 8 and up A Wind In The Door is the second book in Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time series. While this book wasn’t as good as the first, it was still a very good read and it made me use my imagination to see what the characters were experiencing. In this book, Meg is taken on a journey again, except this time, Charles Wallace is the one who needs help. Everybody has millions of mitochondria in their body which make cellular respiration possible. The book talks about fictional creatures called farandolae … Continue reading Book Review: A Wind In The Door by Madeleine L’Engle

Book Review: A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle

Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 8 and up The book is great but the story can be slightly scary at times. The story itself is ingenious and the characters are captivating but the topic is a bit unnerving. I liked the way that Madeleine L’Engle wrote the story because it had lots different things going on at the same time. She also didn’t add filler and she restrained from revealing information until it was absolutely necessary. Meg Murry is a girl who has never excelled in school. Her grades are terrible and it doesn’t help that the … Continue reading Book Review: A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle

Book Review: Anastasia, The Last Grand Duchess by Carolyn Meyers

Rating: 3.8 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 7 and up Considering that the book was based off of a diary, it was fairly well written. Personally, I like books that have some constant action going on in them. It was a diary but I have a hard time imagining that a princess’ life could be so boring. The end of the book was rather sad, and I would recommend this book to people fond of reading about royal life and princesses. Anastasia is the youngest girl in her family. She has a younger brother, but as he has hemophilia, he isn’t … Continue reading Book Review: Anastasia, The Last Grand Duchess by Carolyn Meyers

Book Review: So.B.It by Sarah Weeks

Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 9 and up So.B.It. is a very nice book about people who have to deal with disabilities. Sarah Weeks has shown how not all kids are as fortunate as us. This story is about Heidi and her mother who has disabilities. We don’t choose our parents. Our parents love us for who we are, but for kids, it’s a little harder to accept if we have not so perfect parents. So.B.It is Heidi’s mother who has brain disabilities. One time she was in a city and almost got hit by a car. So.B.It. … Continue reading Book Review: So.B.It by Sarah Weeks

Book Review: Ida B by Katherine Hannigan

Rating : 4.4 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 8 and up Ida B. is a great book about the ups and downs of homeschooling. Katherine Hannigan shows how school can be great for some, while not so great for others. This book was really inspirational in terms of what a person could do when they put their mind to something. Ida B. was a character whose ingenious ideas could change the world, and I found myself believing in her as much as her own parents did in the book. If we had more people like Ida B. in this … Continue reading Book Review: Ida B by Katherine Hannigan

Book Review: Jeremy Fink And The Meaning Of Life by Wendy Mass

Rating : 4.9 out of 5 stars Age Recommended : 11 and up Jeremy Fink And The Meaning Of Life is an amazing book about the discoveries of life. Wendy Mass’s message in the book is clearly portrayed: Life is more than just a string of memories. Do you agree? Well, I do. I think that once you make an impact on the world, big or small, you will always be remembered. Life is a chance to make your mark on the world. People will never forget… whether you reunited them with an old friend, or if you saved their life. Jeremy … Continue reading Book Review: Jeremy Fink And The Meaning Of Life by Wendy Mass

Book Review: Princess For Hire by Lindsey Leavitt

Rating: 4.7 stars out of 5 Age Recommended : 12 and up Princess For Hire was an amazing book that had me captivated from the very first chapter. Lindsey Leavitt showed how your life could be changed with just one bubble bath and magical abilities.      🙂 The book was very exciting and I loved how the author didn’t jump from one character to another. Lindsey Leavitt kept the story-line consistent and the book had twists and turns that kept me engaged. Desi is an ordinary girl that has a terrible job. When her crush’s girlfriend reveals that the … Continue reading Book Review: Princess For Hire by Lindsey Leavitt

Book Review: Number The Stars by Lois Lowry

Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars Age Recommended: 7 and up Number The Stars was a very kid-friendly book that explained how life was during the Holocaust. The book was really inspirational in terms of the main character’s bravery. It helped me understand how hard life was for Jews back then and how they coped with that. Lois Lowry has written a Holocaust book in a completely different way. Most books about the Holocaust are written or translated as diaries, and I have read very few books like this one. Annemarie is a very brave ten-year old and she has … Continue reading Book Review: Number The Stars by Lois Lowry
