Book Review: The Money Tree by Helen Yeomans

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Genre: Fiction

Age Recommended: 12 and up

I received this book courtesy of BookRature

I didn’t like this book very much because it is very drawn out and really has no clear direction. There are many confusing, run-on sentences and some of the content was redundant too. I also feel that several of the characters could have been developed better.

The Money Tree

——————————————

The Frisby’s are a family living in Canada. They grow money trees. Also known as the Juniperus Lucre, the money tree is grown in many countries. However, there can only be one cultivator of this tree per country and they must be registered. Moreover, many countries do not approve of this, so people usually grow trees in secret.

Nobody knows of the Frisby’s activites. They grow apple trees and other trees as well, so nobody really suspects them of doing illegal activities. All is well on the money growing farm until a video of a dog chewing up money goes viral. Cops inspect the money and figure out that it is counterfeit as some of the numerals are missing.

The Frisby’s realize that their money is very easily found by dogs and other animals as it has an appealing odor. Now, their whole life revolves around figuring out a way to make their money odorless and repulsive to animals. However, the police are now on a manhunt to figure out who is growing the illegal money and the scent of the fake bills is drawing them closer…

Will the Frisby’s be found?

Book Review: Perilous by Cidney Swanson (Book seven of the Ripple series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 14 and up

This book was exceptionally well written but I found that it was the hardest to follow in terms of plot because there were many characters and they were all in different parts of the world.

Perilous

——————————————-

George is planning to save the world. The rest of the people think that they are safe, but they’re now. Not until George’s plan succeeds. George is planning to give every person in the world the power to turn invisible. He believes that after this occurs, people will never go hungry and they will always be victorious over their enemies. George believes that he will create the perfect world.

George has also held Katrin in captivity for over a year, after drugging her, hoping that when she wakes up, she will fall in love with him after seeing his creation of the perfect world. When Sam and the others catch scent of his plot, they embark on a mission to save the world.

Moreover, Gwyn elopes with Chretin and her mother is disappointed in her. Will gets the idea from Gwyn to marry Sam but she isn’t ready for such a commitment and Will takes that to mean that she doesn’t want to be with him and leaves her devastated.

Will they figure it all out? Will they be able to stop George?

Book Review: Knavery by Cidney Swanson (Book six of the Ripple series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 15 and up

This was my favorite book by far in the whole series because all of the characters from the entire series were brought together to form one truly exciting, amazing plot.

Knavery

——————————————–

George has joined his uncle Fritz- it is the only thing keeping him alive. Fritz gave him two choices: either live painfully as his prisoner or work alongside him with great benefits. It wasn’t a difficult choice.

Until one day, Fritz asks for George’s help in threatening and killing a girl. George complies until he recognizes the girl as his half-sister, Katrin, whom Fritz had proclaimed as dead more than five years ago. Katrin is one of the Angel Corps, genetically modified humans ruled by Fritz.

Skandor is a rippler but he doesn’t know that more people like him exist. He believes that he is a genetic anomaly and that he is a freak of science. Until one day, he starts questioning the ocmpany he does internships for and realizes that the owner, who happens to be Fritz, can turn invisible as well.

Skandor is appalled by this revelation and soon starts investigating he building further. While doing so, he falls in love with Katrin and attempts to help her escape.

However, Katrin refuses the help of her lover and brother and won’t leave unless they rescue her other siblins, who are Angel Corps as well.

Will they all be saved?

Book Review: Immutable by Cidney Swanson (Book five of the Ripple series)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 14 and up

My Secret Santa bought me the fifth and sixth book of this series!! I am ever so grateful for this and can’t wait to read the next book! If you’re reading this, you know who you are!!

I found this book a little more difficult to understand, again, because of the abrupt change of main characters, but also because the characters had very similar names.

Immutable

———————————————–

Martina is one of the Angel Corps- a group of clones designed by Fritz to rid the world of imperfect people. With the help of Pfeffer, Fritz is managing to keep all of the Angel Corps in check by damaging their genes so that they need an enzyme injection every few weeks but they themselves don’t know what enzyme they need.

However, Martina tricks Pfeffer by changing the vials just before he injects her with a serum designed to take away her ability to ripple, or turn invisible. She runs away the next day to find her brothers, both of whom have run away and are extremely sick from the lack of the enzyme.

Martina attempts to find a cure for her brothers but is reunited with her old love on the way. He convinces her that he left her because Fritz was going to kill him and she believes him until he goes to “work” and she sees him delivering drugs to a man who later dies.

Fritz starts blackmailing Martina as he has kidnapped her love and her two brothers. Too many lives hang in the balance now…

Book Review: Visible by Cidney Swanson (Book four of the Ripple series)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 14 and up

I found this book a little more enjoyable than the others because the focus of the author switched and many secondary characters from previous books became the focus of this story. This helped a lot with the development of these characters and I enjoyed reading about their backgrounds.

Visible

——————————————-

Sam and her friend Gwyn have finally managed to escape from the clutches of the evil Fritz and they believe him to be defeated. Gwyn is also living her “happily ever after” with Chretin and can’t wait to return to her normal life. However, Fritz has other plans.

Fritz plans to use Chretin’s memories against him in order to get him to cooperate with the gene testing that his father was attempting to do. Chretin becomes wary of everyone around him and eventually gets stuck in his past, giving Fritz what he wants. Gwyn, on the other hand, is nervous that her love for Chretin will forever remain unrequited for as long as he is stuck in his past.

Gwyn’s plans to help Chretin move on go disastrously wrong and Fritz discovers even more ways to hurt Chretin using memories of his late wife and child. Moreover, Fritz creates a serum that takes away people’s ability to ripple, or turn invisible, and he wants someone to test it on…

Book Review: Unfurl by Cidney Swanson (Book Three of the Ripple series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 14 and up

This book was a little more violent than the previous ones but I found this one to be the best in terms of the story and character development.

———————————————

Unfurl

Sam and Will have conquered their enemies but the worst is yet to come. They believe that they are safe but one day, Sam is kidnapped from her home and taken to a lab where people attempt to take an egg from her in order to reproduce superhumans who contain Sam’s DNA.

Some superhumans resembling these have already been created and when Sam sees how much damage they cause, she refuses to cooperate. The people, in turn, knock her out with a sedative and take the egg by force. Sam is returned to her old house where she convinces her parents that she just went for a run.

Later, Sam is reunited with Will, who was formerly in Paris, and the two of them attempt to sneak back into the lab in order to destroy the egg. However, when Sam’s loved ones are held hostage, she must make a difficult choice.

What will she choose?

Book Review: Chameleon by Cidney Swanson (Book Two of the Ripple Series)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Genre: Supernatural Fiction

Age Recommended: 14 and up

I just recently discovered that there are seven books in this series, not four! I am thrilled and hope to read them all soon!

I felt that this book was a little more confusing than the first; mainly because some of the newly introduced characters have similar names. However, this book is definitely more action-packed which I enjoyed.

—————————————–

Chameleon

Sam and Will have now broken into a university to steal a book that could solve all of their problems. However, one of the henchmen of the evil scientist finds them and discovers that they can ripple. Sam and Will now know that they are no longer safe but decide to hide this from Will’s sister, knowing that she will make Will move away again.

Later on, Will and his sister start receiving letters from a man claiming to have known the late professor who discovered rippling as a medical phenomenon. Will, his sister, and Sam travel to Paris to meet this man after learning that he is speaking the truth after all.

Once in Paris, Will and Sam receive lessons on rippling and how to connect their minds to speak to one another which would prove to be very helpful when in a tight spot. However, they also learn that since Samantha has just learned to ripple, she is still unable to ripple when she’s nervous or scared. This could cost them their lives.

When the evil scientist catches up to Will and Sam, there’s nowhere to hide…

Will they survive?
