Book Review: Encrypted by Carolyn McCray (Book One of the Robin Hood Hacker series)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Thriller

Age Recommended: 14 and up

I would highly recommend reading Hacked (cover at bottom), the prequel / short story, before reading this story because it gives some insight into the character’s situation and sets the scene for this book.

I really enjoyed this book and I think the author did a great job of writing the story with just a handful of characters. The only criticism I have is that the antagonist wasn’t developed as well as the other characters, which made him seem mentally unstable rather than intelligent because we never really saw the reasoning behind his actions.

Ronnie, also known as the Robin Hood Hacker, is a girl who takes money from large businesses and gives it to other organization, and of course keeps some for herself too. Ronnie has never been caught, even though Zach, a policeman, has been on her case for a very long time.

One day, Zach and Ronnie decide to meet up, but Zach is kidnapped by his fellow officers who claim that Ronnie is the only way to stop the release of a huge plague that was created by a group of people called The Hidden Hand, who believe that everything they do is orchestrated by God.

Ronnie and her assistant manage to save Zach, but now that the virus has been released, they must find The Hidden Hand and attempt to retrieve that vaccine.

When some unusual alliances develop, and the people they least expect betray them, will Ronnie and Zach be able to find the vaccine in time?
